Furano is a small town famous for its flower fields, ski resorts, cheese factory and wineries. The town main economies are agriculture and tourism. About 25,000 people live in Furano making it one of the least densely populated areas in all of Japan. Summer is the best time to visit the area, especially July when lavender blooms. People are proud to live in the center of Hokkaido, so they like to remind it during the “Belly Town Festival”
