Located the Shijo downtown district, “Momohana-an” machiya holiday house is tucked down a quiet residential lane – your private retreat in Kyoto.
Like many Kyoto machiyas, “Momohana-an” served not only as a living space, but also as a store. Enter the house to discover a ‘mise no ma’ space, where business was once conducted with guests. This front room also features a large dresser on the earthen floor, which showcases a rare example of Kamakura style carvings.
Walk further into the house and find two ‘tsuboniwa’ gardens. Relax in the living room or at the veranda to take in the serene atmosphere of this traditional house.
