Nyuto Onsen, Northern Japan
Welcome to Tsurunoyu Onsen. This wooden Minshuku is located near Yamanoyado Bekkan, and it has 30 Japanese-style guest rooms. None of the guest rooms have their own private bath and only a few of the guest rooms have their own private toilet. The hot spring baths here date back over 350 years, and there are indoor and outdoor hot spring baths for both women and men (same gender only). There is a “family bath” which can be privately reserved, and there are also mixed outdoor hot spring baths for both genders. Traditional Japanese cuisine is served to the guests at Tsurunoyu Onsen. Parking is available.

Wonderful choice
Great atmosphere in this onsen, you feel the traditional Japan as it is. Very welcoming and everything is clean. The onsen itself is a miracle with great water. Thank you for this experience!

One in a million
It’s difficult to find the words to do Tsuru-no-yu justice and any picture you see really doesn’t quite capture what makes it so breathtaking. First off it’s genuinely rustic. It’s like a shadowy reflection of what it possibly looked like 100 years ago which means the rooms are as simple as they come. But that shouldn’t matter because if you’re going you should be going for the baths and the baths do not disappoint. They are damn hot, sulfurous and perfect. The communally served meals are equally incredible. I’ve been to 40 to 50 onsen across Japan, and there is a clear reason why Tsuru-no-yu always seems to rank in the top 3 in most reviews. Like most of Japan, if you’ve never been you’ll never understand, if you have you’ll never find the words.

Impressive location
The most impressive things were the awesome natural view and fresh air. Besides, the people’s generosity is very impressive and the native food is unique and tasty.
